BRC

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has developed and implemented the BRC Food Technical Standard in 1998 as a reaction to demands from the industry.

The standard from the leading British trade association assesses processors´ own food brands in terms of food safety, consumer goods, packaging, storage and distribution.

According the European food safety legislation have traders and brandowners legal responsibility over their brands. The BRC-Standard supports traders and brand owners regarding food safety and food quality during the production process. Many traders and brand owners in the United Kingdom, Nothern America and Europe demand nowadays the BRC-Standard for their suppliers.  This has resulted in BRC certified companies in over 100 countries.

This comprehensive standard takes the following aspects into account:

  • Food safety (HACCP)
  • Quality management
  • Environment during the production process
  • Product and process controls
